GC Energy Services Has Two Year Celebration

This May, GC Energy Services, a division of Gulf Copper and Manufacturing Inc., celebrated a significant milestone event. As of April 2016, GC Energy Services has worked two consecutive years without an OSHA recordable incident. The effort and focus of the employees to reach this point, and strive for no incidents or accidents is a pleasure to observe. When teams recognize their achievements, their pride deepens and shows outwardly. A safety culture may not be nourished without pride. On a sunny late spring Friday in breezy Galveston Texas, we celebrated with broiled crawfish, new potatoes, sausage and corn. Cooked and served by Clifford McDonald, Donald Demers, and others of the NDT group.

I recently read a comment on www.BPtrends.com, “Using metrics that measure past events is liking driving while looking out the rear window”. This makes logical sense, on the other hand passing milestones, celebrating achievements, and recognizing efforts, are prerequisites for motivations and moving the safety culture along in the right direction. Without continuous improvement in the safety culture of a team, it will not be possible to deliver on the safety goals and vision. During our mud bug feast, Andrew Powers made an astute observation of our industry, “Only several years ago we were going on the rigs to work hard and with safety guidance’s, now we go on the rigs to be safe, and while we are at it, perform quality work”. A reference to the industries continued shift from a work focus to a safety focus.

All of us at GC Energy Services can be proud of the no incident achievement. To build on this trend we will continue to focus on leading indicators such as safety training, safety observation reporting, job risk assessment participation, and job site safety audits. Developing a harmonized team of professionals performing these activities in a conscientious manner will deliver continued safety success.

Congratulations to everyone at GC Energy Services, keep up the good work!
